Summer 2019

In the Summer (June and July), we offer half-day camps for ages 3- 13 and drop-in classes for ages 11 & up.

Fairytale Camp (ages 3-5): June 17-21, July 15-19, July 22-26, 10am- noon. $126.

Fairytale Camp uses storytelling to engage students’ imaginations and invite them into the enchanting world of ballet. Through classical ballet stories, such as Cinderella, Coppelia, Peter and the Wolf, and Sleeping Beauty, Miss Abbey will show the beauty and grace of dance as a means to tell a story. Young male dancers are encouraged to participate and play the role of prince. Each day of camp will include dance class, story and snack time, arts and crafts, and creative movement class. In a structured and encouraging environment, the dancers will not only learn classical ballet stories, but also become a part of them!

Demonstration: Parents are invited to attend the last 20 minutes of the Friday session for an in-class performance.

Dress Code: 3-5 year old girls- pink leotard without an attached skirt, pink footed tights, pink ballet slippers, hair pulled back. Boys- white shirt, black bottoms, black ballet slippers.

Triple Threat Theatre Camp (ages 5- 13): June 24- 28, 9:00am- 4:00pm. $350.

Triple Theatre Camp offers a concentrated training experience in the craft of singing, acting, and dancing in collaboration with The Strand Located on the Marietta Square, Triple Threat Theatre Camp students will have the opportunity to learn in the historic Strand Theatre as well as the studios at Georgia Dance Conservatory. This hands-on, conservatory-style program gives students a chance to learn some of the most important and influential practices of the modern theater. Students discover not only how to express themselves individually but also the crucial skills of how to work as an ensemble, gaining valuable leadership skills while having fun and making friends. All of our instructors are either formally educated in their discipline or have substantial professional performing experience.

Demonstration: Parents are invited to attend the end of the Friday session for an onstage performance at The Strand.

Dress Code: Girls- solid color leotard with leggings or shorts, hair pulled back. Boys- T-shirt with athletic shorts or pants.

Hip Hop Camp (ages 6- 12): June 17- 21, 9:30am- 12:30pm. $176.

Hip Hop Camp will focus on the dance form popularized from street dancing and danced to kid-friendly pop and hip hop music. Students will learn techniques to improve memorization, rhythm, coordination, and performance through fun hip hop movement. Taught by Ms. Nicole, this camp is perfect for dancers of all levels, and will center around a joy for movement. Each day will include a warm up, stretching and conditioning exercises, hip hop choreography, dance videos, games, and snacks. No experience needed!

Dress Code: Girls- solid color leotard with leggings or shorts, hair pulled back. Boys- T-shirt with athletic shorts or pants. Sneakers are the preferred footwear.

Tap Camp (ages 6- 12): July 22- 26, 9:30am- 12:30pm. $176.

Tap Camp focuses on rhythm, sound, and fun! Choreographed to upbeat, popular music, this camp will inspire your dancers to make music of their own, using their feet as the instrument. Ms. Jenna will guide dancers of all levels in basic tap techniques, tap history, and choreography. This camp will include an hour-long tap class, dance videos, crafts and games, snack time, and choreography. No experience needed!

Dress Code: Girls- solid color leotard with leggings or shorts, hair pulled back. Boys- T-shirt with athletic shorts or pants. Tap shoes are the preferred footwear.

Ballet Bootcamp (ages 7- 11): $176.

Ballet Bootcamp I // 7- 10 year olds, 1- 2 years of previous ballet training, new company members, PTI, and PTII*:

June 10- 14, June 24- 28, July 15- 19, 1:00- 4:00pm

Ballet Bootcamp II // 9- 11 year olds, 3- 4 years of previous ballet training, PTII and ATI*:

June 17- 21, July 8- 12, July 22- 26, 1:00- 4:00pm

Ballet Bootcamp is specifically designed for GMDT company dancers in levels PTI, PTII, and ATI, or dancers interested in joining company at these levels, but all serious-minded dancers ages 7- 11 are welcome. Workshops are intended to supplement the serious-minded young dancers’ yearly training during the summer months. Each workshop is a week-long session and includes: intensive-style classes focused on technique, strength, and flexibility; supplemental dance education in dance history, terminology, anatomy, injury prevention, and nutrition; crafts, games, and choreography. The summer is a wonderful time for dancers to take on new challenges, grow to new levels, and enjoy all aspects of dance!

Demonstration: Parents are invited to attend the last 30 minutes of the Friday session for an in-class performance.

*GMDT company dancers take summer classes at the level in which they trained during the previous school year 2018-19. Please refer to the front desk for questions.

Dress Code: Girls- solid color leotard, pink convertible tights, pink ballet slippers, hair in bun. Boys- White T-shirt, black tights, and black ballet shoes.

Daily Schedule: 1.5 hour ballet technique class, 30 minutes stretching/strengthening, 30 minutes dance education/snack, 20 minutes craft/activity, 40 minutes choreography.

Drop-In Classes

Summer Drop-In Classes are for serious-minded students ages 11 & up, who are looking to continue their dance study over the summer. We offer Conditioning for Dancers, Ballet, Pointe, Contemporary, Hip Hop, and Tap taught by exceptionally trained and experienced instructors. These are open, drop-in classes that you may take based on your availability. You may pay by the class, purchase a class card, or buy a carte blanche.

Classes are:

  • Monday- Thursday, 4:00- 8:30pm
  • June 10- July 26
  • No classes July 1- July 5

    • Carte Blanche (unlimited classes): $525
  • Conditioning For Dancers, Hip Hop, and Tap are all level classes.
  • Ballet, Pointe, and Contemporay have 2 levels: Intermediate and Advanced.
